Wild Photography Walks

IMG_9833.jpg

What This is

A small guided walk where you'll be gently encouraged to:

  • Notice light, shape, texture and mood

  • Capture how a place feels, not just how it looks

  • Let go of overthinking and enjoy the art of photography

  • Build confidence in your own way of seeing

You'll bring your own camera (any kind - phones are welcome!), and I'll guide the group through simple prompts and ways of seeing that I use in my own work.

No pressure, no technical jargon, no standing around being lectured.

[Slow photography walks in the wild]
A gentle photographic walk for people who want to learn how to see rather than just take pictures.

These walks aren't about camera settings, perfection, or ticking off viewpoints. They're about slowing down, paying attention, and learning to trust your own photographic eye in beautiful landscapes.

Aberdeenshire is our backdrop - not to conquer, but to notice.

Why i run these walks

Photography, for me, has always been about noticing; the art of it, not the technical stuff - the quiet moments, the in-between light, the details people normally just walk past.

These walks are a chance to share that way of seeing, in a place that naturally invites you to slow down.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Do i need to be an experience Photographer?

Not at all. These walks are for beginners, hobby photographers, and anyone who enjoys taking photos but wants more confidence and creativity in how they shoot. There's no pressure to be 'good' - curiosity matters far more than experience.

What kind of camera do I need?

Any camera is welcome, including a phone. This isn't about gear or settings - it's about learning how to notice light, shape, mood and moments, whatever you're shooting with.

Will you be teaching camera settings?

No — this isn’t a technical photography course. I’ll occasionally talk about why something works visually, but the focus is on ways of seeing rather than buttons, menus, or manuals.

How fit do I need to be?

The walk is gentle and unrushed, with regular stopping points and plenty of time to pause and photograph. We’ll be on the lower slopes of Bennachie or public paths near the coast and I’ll always adapt the pace to the group. If you’re comfortable walking on uneven terrain and stopping often, you’ll be fine.

How long is the walk?

Approximately 2–3 hours, including plenty of pauses. This isn’t about covering distance — it’s about slowing down.

What should I wear or bring?

Comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and your camera. Scotland being Scotland, layers and waterproofs are always a good idea. A small bag or rucksack is best so you can move easily. Also bring some snacks and a bottle of water/juice.

Will we go ahead if the weather isn’t great?

Yes — within reason. Overcast, misty, or lightly rainy weather can be beautiful for photography. If conditions are genuinely unsafe or unpleasant, the walk will be rescheduled.

How many people will be on the walk?

Spaces are limited to a maximum of 6 people to keep the experience relaxed, personal, and unhurried.

Is this suitable for children?

These walks are designed for adults and older teens who want a quiet, focused experience. If you’re unsure, feel free to get in touch before booking.

Is this a guided hike?

No. This is a slow photographic walk rather than a fitness or navigation-based hike. Participants take part at their own risk.

What if I feel awkward or unsure?

That’s completely normal — and very common. The walks are gentle, supportive, and non-judgemental. There’s no pressure to share images or perform in any way. You’re welcome to be quiet, reflective, or curious in your own way.

Is my dog welcome?

I will occassionally host dog friendly sessions and advertise this, please enquire for futher information. Dogs will be required to be under control with good recall by their owners.

How do I book?

Spaces can be booked via the contact form and are confirmed once payment is received. Exact meeting details will be shared after booking.
