One of the most special things about Vicky & Mark’s day was the location. The ceremony took place in a historic ruined church in Oyne, just steps from their home — a setting that felt deeply personal and completely unique.

Despite the rain that dominated much of the day, the ceremony itself stayed dry. Guests gathered within the stone walls of the ruins, sheltered just enough to allow vows to be exchanged without interruption. The atmosphere was calm, emotional, and quietly beautiful — the kind of moment that feels removed from everything else.

Bennachie Views Lost to the Mist (and Why It Didn’t Matter)

On a clear day, the views from the ruins stretch out towards Bennachie, one of Aberdeenshire’s most iconic landmarks. On this day, however, the mist had other plans.

Instead of dramatic mountain views, the ruins were wrapped in low cloud and soft rain, giving the whole setting a moody, almost cinematic feel. While the landscape disappeared into the mist, the focus stayed exactly where it should have been — on Vicky & Mark, and the people gathered around them.

Sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate, but it gives you something just as memorable in return.

A Half Day of Real Moments (and Getting Completely Soaked)

We joined Vicky & Mark on our half-day photography and highlights film package, capturing their wedding from the ceremony through to the celebrations that followed. From portraits to candid moments, we embraced the weather fully — and yes, got completely soaked in the process.

Rain has a way of stripping things back to what really matters. There was no rushing, no pressure — just real moments, laughter through umbrellas, and a couple who were more interested in enjoying their day than worrying about the forecast.

Capturing both photographs and a highlights film meant their story could be told in two ways — the still moments, and the movement, sound, and atmosphere of the day.
