T
here’s something extraordinary about celebrating love outside, surrounded by ancient trees, misty rain, and your closest family. That was the magic of Vhairi & Ryan’s elopement at The Hermitage in Dunkeld — a place where towering Douglas firs and the thunder of the River Braan set the stage for a deeply personal and unforgettable day.
A Ceremony in the Rain
Despite the soft Scottish rain falling through the forest canopy, Vhairi & Ryan’s ceremony was nothing short of magical. With fewer than 20 guests gathered close, the mist seemed to wrap the woodland in an embrace — a reminder that nature, like love, is beautifully unpredictable.
Rain didn’t dampen spirits; it enhanced the moment. It made every look, laugh, and quiet vow feel even more intimate. The sounds of droplets on leaves and the gentle murmur of the river in the background created a soundtrack that was both serene and powerful — just like their love.

Nature’s Cathedral
The Hermitage is a National Trust for Scotland woodland known for its majestic trees, meandering paths, and dramatic riverside scenery. Couples here often choose spots along the River Braan or near Ossian’s Hall — an 18th-century folly overlooking the Black Linn Falls — for ceremonies that feel timeless and elemental.
Vhairi & Ryan’s decision to get married surrounded by nature — rain included — made every photograph feel cinematic, raw, and deeply heartfelt, even without grand backdrops or elaborate décor.
Quiet Portraits in the Woods
After their vows, we stayed in the woodland to capture portraits beneath the emerald canopy. Rain-kissed foliage, glistening paths, and soft natural light made every frame feel alive and personal.
Some of my favourite moments from the day weren’t posed at all — it was just the two of them walking hand in hand, stealing a laugh under a rain-spotted leaf, or sharing a quiet look in the heart of the forest.
A Day Remembered
What made Vhairi & Ryan’s elopement so beautiful wasn’t sunshine or sunshine-perfect conditions — it was vulnerability, presence, and connection. Their closest family witnessed their vows, embraced the rain, and shared in a day that was deeply theirs, from start to finish.
This was a wedding defined not by size or spectacle, but by love, togetherness, and a woodland backdrop that will live forever in memory.
