An Intimate Autumnal Woodland Wedding at The Hermitage, Dunkeld

Updated: Feb 10

Ossian’s Hall Ceremony & Fonab Castle Reception

Tucked deep within the Perthshire woods, Andy & Claire chose one of Scotland’s most atmospheric locations for their wedding day — The Hermitage in Dunkeld. With fewer than 20 of their closest family members present, the day was beautifully intimate, unhurried, and full of meaning.

I arrived just in time for the ceremony, stepping into the woodland moments before they began — the air quiet, the trees towering above, and Ossian’s Hall waiting at the heart of the forest.

A Ceremony in Ossian’s Hall

Set within the woods and overlooking the dramatic Black Linn Falls, Ossian’s Hall feels almost otherworldly. It was the perfect setting for a ceremony that felt deeply personal and grounded in nature.

As Andy & Claire exchanged vows, the sound of rushing water echoed through the trees, and soft woodland light filtered in through the windows. With only their nearest and dearest gathered around them, the ceremony felt calm, emotional, and incredibly sincere — one of those moments where everything else seems to fade away.

Every glance, smile, and quiet laugh felt amplified by the intimacy of the space.

Woodland Couple Portraits at The Hermitage

After the ceremony, we took time to wander through the surrounding woodland for couple portraits. The Hermitage offers endless textures — towering trees, winding paths, moss-covered stones — and the soft, natural light was absolutely perfect.

This part of the day felt relaxed and unposed. Andy & Claire took it all in together, walking hand in hand through the forest, sharing quiet moments now that they were officially married. These portraits are some of my favourites from the day — natural, romantic, and completely reflective of who they are together.

A Family Reception at Fonab Castle, Pitlochry

From the stillness of the forest, the day continued at Fonab Castle in Pitlochry, where the couple celebrated with a small reception for close family. Overlooking Loch Faskally, the setting was elegant yet welcoming — a perfect contrast to the woodland ceremony.

With no big crowds or tight timelines, the afternoon unfolded naturally. There were heartfelt conversations, shared stories, and time to truly enjoy being together. It was a celebration centred around connection rather than tradition, and it suited the couple perfectly.

A Quiet, Meaningful Celebration

This wedding was a beautiful reminder that smaller celebrations can be just as powerful — if not more so. Every choice felt intentional, every moment unrushed, and every photograph tells a story of love, family, and place. Check out Babeinthewood.com/weddings for more details on our wedding packages.
