One of the best parts of property photography is discovering places I may never have visited in the same way otherwise, and my recent trip to Gardenstown was a perfect example of that - I have been there before, but not explored it properly.
I was commissioned to photograph The Auld Schoolhouse, a beautifully renovated two-bedroom holiday let tucked away just above the harbour in Gardenstown. Sleeping up to four guests, the property combines modern comfort with plenty of character, making it an ideal base for anyone looking to explore this stunning corner of the Aberdeenshire coast.
As always, my goal was not only to showcase the property itself but also to capture the atmosphere and surroundings that make a stay there so special. After photographing the interior and exterior of The Auld Schoolhouse, I spent some time wandering around the village with my camera.
Gardenstown is one of those places that instantly leaves an impression. The narrow winding streets, colourful houses perched above the sea, and spectacular coastal views all combine to create a setting that feels wonderfully untouched. Strolling down towards the harbour, it was easy to imagine visitors spending their days exploring the shoreline, watching the boats, or simply soaking up the peaceful surroundings.
Of course, no photography trip is complete without a coffee stop. During my wanderings, I called into Bumble & Brae, a lovely local coffee shop that proved impossible to resist. I treated myself to a cheeky hot chocolate and ended up staying a little longer than planned thanks to a lovely chat with the friendly ladies behind the counter. It's these unexpected moments and conversations that often become just as memorable as the photography itself.
By the end of the visit, I left with a full memory card and an even greater appreciation for Gardenstown. It's easy to see why so many people fall in love with this picturesque coastal village, and The Auld Schoolhouse offers a fantastic place to experience it from.

If you're looking for a peaceful coastal escape with stunning scenery right on your doorstep, Gardenstown is certainly worth adding to your list.
